Our Story
Meet the Founder:
Scott Ramsey, PhD
I started the Alaska Outdoor Science School out of a love for hands-on learning in the natural world.
I combine over three decades of practical experience as an educator and wilderness guide with teaching as a professor in the doctoral and master’s programs at Prescott College.
Alongside my wife, an accomplished yoga teacher and wellness guide, we built an off-grid home in Alaska and raised our amazing daughter, where she has developed her own love for science, creativity, and adventure.
As an educator, guide, and parent, I’ve seen how exploring glaciers, rivers, and wildlife can open eyes, hearts, and minds.
“The living textbook of Alaska teaches what no classroom can. Being hands-on changes how you see the world.”

The only source of knowledge is experience. ~ Albert Einstein
I hope that my experience, background, and passion for nature ensure that every AOSS student has a safe, hands-on, and transformational learning experience.
